Please read this special warning bulletin for all applicants!

Internet Rental Scams and Fraud are a common and growing problem in our city and in cities across the country. Please help us put these criminals out of business and prevent yourself and your neighbors from being scammed.

Fraudsters posing as legitimate property owners are posting homes for rent on websites like Craigs List and Facebook Marketplace and swindling innocent people out of their hard-earned money.

They are copying legitimate rental listings and re-posting them on these websites and substituting their contact information on the listing. Applicants like you are then contacting these imposters to view the property and submit payment for rent and security deposits. But unfortunately, the fraudster is simply posing as the Owner and has no legal authority to lease it to you in the first place. Consequently, your funds will be lost.

PLEASE HELP US BY DOING THE FOLLOWING:

  • DO NOT Engage in fraudulent activity. Rent Builder will never ask you to REMOVE OUR KEY from the lock box and store it anywhere but in the box. A SCAMMER WILL.
  • DO NOT Wire money to anyone. We will never ask you to wire funds.
  • DO NOT Apply for or send funds for any home you view on Craigs List or Facebook.
  • DO NOT apply for a property from someone who does not have a place of business or will not meet you at the property.
